Exif Expert

Metadata viewer · in-browser only

See what hides in the file before you publish

Upload an image to inspect its EXIF. Parsing happens locally in your browser — nothing is sent to Exif Expert servers.

Why the Exif Expert viewer is handy

Files stay with you

Metadata is parsed in your browser. Photos never reach our servers.

Clear sections

Camera, exposure, date and time, GPS, colour profile, and more are grouped into readable blocks.

Preview + details together

Thumbnail and value table on one screen — handy for documents and products before you send them.

Free, no sign-in

EXIF viewing is free without limits and without creating an account.

Privacy while viewing EXIF

Metadata can include shoot location, serial numbers, and precise time. This page does not upload your file to our server — you inspect data locally, like on your own device. Use it to decide consciously what to strip before publishing.

If you open a photo on someone else’s computer, the browser and OS can still access the file — same as any local viewer. For maximum privacy, avoid sensitive files on shared machines.

What is EXIF?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) stores metadata inside images. It started as a helper for photographers, but files now often include geolocation, device identifiers, and more.

Technical data

  • Camera make and model
  • Lens information
  • Shutter speed, aperture, ISO
  • Flash and white balance
  • Dimensions and orientation

Sensitive data

  • GPS: latitude, longitude, altitude
  • Capture date and time
  • Device serial numbers
  • Editing software
  • Embedded thumbnails and XMP notes

Viewing shows what may leak with the file. If anything is unwanted, use our Clear EXIF page — also without uploading the file to a server.

When EXIF viewing helps

Typical moments to peek at metadata before sending or publishing.

Before posting online

Check for home/work coordinates, odd capture times, or traces of editing.

Self-checks and paperwork

Confirm camera and time fields match the story before sending to a bank, marketplace, or verification desk.

Buying or selling gear

Compare claimed camera and lens with what EXIF actually records.

Archiving

Quickly filter shots by date, orientation, or GPS presence without opening desktop apps.

Frequently asked questions

How do I view the EXIF data of a photo online?

Open the "View EXIF" page and drag your image onto it. The tool reads EXIF, IPTC, and XMP metadata directly in your browser and displays camera, lens, exposure, date, GPS, and software fields in readable sections.

Is the EXIF viewer free and does it require sign-in?

Yes, it is completely free and needs no account. You can inspect as many photos as you like without registering.

Does viewing EXIF upload my photo to a server?

No. Metadata is parsed locally in your browser, so your photo never reaches our servers. It works the same as inspecting the file on your own device.

How can I see where and when a photo was taken?

If the file contains GPS and date tags, the viewer shows the capture time and the latitude/longitude, often with a resolved country or city. If those fields were removed, the viewer will report that no geolocation or timestamp is present.

Which image formats can the EXIF viewer read?

The viewer supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, HEIC/HEIF, and AVIF. Some browsers parse certain formats more completely than others, so a few advanced tags may not appear everywhere.
